Oscar Edelstein - compositor, pianista y director argentino - conocido por su originalidad e inventiva, es considerado con frecuencia liderando la vanguardia musical desde Latinoamérica. 

Nacido en La Paz, Entre  Ríos, se formó en composición con relevantes maestros argentinos: José Maranzano, Mariano Etkin y  Francisco Kröpfl.  Luego de obtener numerosos premios nacionales e internacionales, en 1992, fue el artista mas joven que recibió la “Beca Antorchas para Artistas Sobresalientes de la Generación Intermedia”.

Desde 1985 Edelstein es Profesor Titular concursado e investigador universitario con el máximo grado en ambas actividades académicas en Universidad de Quilmes.

Edelstein es invitado para dar conciertos, dictar master clases y conducir estudios de posgrados basados en sus propias obras, teorías y técnicas compositivas por las mas prestigiosas instituciones Latinoaméricanas,  y algunos países europeos entre ellas: el Royal College of Music, la Guildhall School of Music (Londres);  la University of Central England(Birmingham); el Royal Northern College of Music & Drama (Manchester); University of Wales (Aberystwyth); y University of Music and Performing Arts (Vienna).

En los últimos años ha recibido encargos de óperas modernas y obras sinfónicas no convencionales por parte de el Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Argentina, la London Philharmonic Orchestra, y la Basel Sinfonietta, entre otras.

La producción publicada y catalogada de Edelstein es profusa y crucial en el mapa de la música de vanguardia, la nueva opera y la performance en Latinoamérica.

Born in La Paz, Entre  Ríos (Argentina), he was formed in composition by relevant Argentina teachers: José Maranzano , Mariano Etkin &  Francisco Kröpfl.  Having received numerous national and international prices, in 1992 he was the youngest artist to receive the “Antorchas Award” for “Outstanding Artists of the Intermediate Generation.”

Since 1985 Edelstein is a Senior Professor & researcher with the maximum grade in both academic activities at the Universidad de Quilmes.

Edelstein is invited to give concerts, master classes & lead postgraduate studies based on his own works, theories & composition techniques for the most prestigious Latin American institutions, & various European countries among them; Royal College of Music, Guildhall School of Music, University of Central England (Birmingham), Royal Northern College of Music & Drama (Manchester), University of Wales (Aberystwyth), & University of Music and Performing Arts (Vienna).

In the last few years he has received commissions for modern operas & symphonic works from Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Argentina, Basel Sinfonietta & London Philharmonic Orchestra, amongst others.

The published & catalogued production of Edelstein is profuse & crucial in the map of avant-garde music, new opera & performance in Latin America.

Oscar Edelstein zählt zu den führenden lateinamerikanischen Avantgarde-Komponisten. Im Zentrum seiner Kompositionen stehen die Beschäftigung mit elektro-akustischer Musik und die Möglichkeiten der Gestaltung des Klanges im Raum.1953 in La Paz geboren, studiert Oscar Edelstein Komposition bei Jose Maranzano, Mariano Etkin und Francisco Kröpfl. Fasziniert von den Möglichkeiten elektro-akustischer Klangerzeugung gründete er 1985 das „Centro de Investigación Musical”, dem er bis 1992 als Leiter vorstand und das sich mit den Möglichkeiten computergenerierter Klänge auseinandersetzt. Einen wichtigen Stellenwert im Oeuvre Edelsteins nehmen Kompositionen für das Musiktheater ein, in denen er die überlieferten Gattungsgrenzen zugunsten seiner Vorstellung eines „akustischen Theaters“ überschreitet. Eines seiner renommiertesten Bühnenprojekte war das Musiktheater „Los Monstruito“, das 2006 vom Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires in Auftrag gegeben wurde. 

Oscar Edelstein ist Professor für Komposition an der Universidad Nacional de Quilmes, wo er das viel beachtete Forschungsprojekt „Laboratory of Acoustics and Sound Perception (LAPSO) betreut, das sich mit neuen Notations- und Steuerungsformen des Klangs im Raum auseinandersetzt. Darüber hinaus leitet er das argentinische Ensemble Nacional del Sur (ENS). Blieb Edelsteins Wirkungskreis vor allem auf Lateinamerika beschränkt, so erregte er 2007 mit einer erfolgreichen Grossbritannien-Tournee seines Musiktheaterwerks Rivers and Mirrors: Part I erstmals in Europa breites Aufsehen. Überdies ist Oscar Edelstein ein international gefragter Gastdozent und hat mehrere postgraduierte Meisterklassen in Lateinamerika und Europa gegeben.
